Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are becoming more popular each year as the cosmetic industry makes greater varieties available at lower price points than ever before. Fillers provide instant results to smooth wrinkles and add volume you want it. Facial injectable products most commonly contain hyaluronic acid, which helps to fill facial lines or restore volume lost in areas like the cheeks and lips. Fillers are skillfully injected under the skin in various areas with fine needles. The results typically last between 6-18 months before a touch up is needed.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Most dermal fillers use Hyaluronic Acid, Poly-L-lactic acid, or similar substances because of their ability to attract and hold water.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally present molecule involved in the maintenance of our skin’s moisture content. HA is found in our skin, joints, cartilage and brain tissue. Laboratory designed dermal fillers are often range from viscous and thick to smooth and thin. Briel will help you choose the ideal product for the area of the face being treated.

Dermal fillers can help add volume on the face for patients of all ages. Common treatment areas include: under eyes, the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline, nasolabial folds, (laugh lines) and marionette lines at the bottom corners of the mouth. Fillers can even improve the appearance of the neck and backs of hands. HA is naturally absorbed by the body over time which is one of the reasons fillers are such a widely used cosmetic tool.

Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Sculptra® are some of the most well-known names in the dermal filler market. Each takes the form of a bio-safe gel injected into the area where additional fullness is desired. They can plump the skin, restore contours, smooth wrinkles, and boost the volume to create a softer, more youthful appearance.

Juvederm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid based fillers which attract moisture and increases softness and volume to the area.

Sculptra which is made of Poly-L-lactic acid boosts collagen production, which provides tautness and elasticity to our skin. Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen—the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cells and tissue—for results that can last up to two years. This modern solution helps treat the underlying cause of facial aging, not just the symptoms.
